On Saturday April 5, 2008 several members of the National Capitol Area Roadster and Coupe Club met at the Hillbrook Inn for lunch and to discuss a schedule for the upcoming driving season.  Below is a list of topics we discussed (thanks Betty Woolhouse for taking notes).

1.      May 31, 2008 - Covered Bridge Cruise with a visit to Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.  David Kolodny (old faithful) will organize and Mark Hollis will assist

2.      August 15-17, 2008 – Potentially another trip to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing but this time there will vintage racing track time.  Mark Hollis might organize but needs assistance.

3.      Labor Day Weekend - Homecoming cruise

4.      September 20-21, 2008 - 6th Annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge to be organized Karen Kinney.

5.      Date to be determined - Drive and tour of the Barboursville Ruins.  The property at Barboursville is now operated as a winery (Barboursville Winery )  including a restaurant (Palladio Restaurant).  Gary Dittmer has indicated he will coordinate this event.  I will assist.

6.      Date to be determined - Western Maryland toward the Cumberland Gap.  This would be an overnight event and would probably require a weekend planning trip to scout roads, lodging and dining.

7.      Date to be determined - Leaf Peeper Drive.  One lap of West Virginia (Martinsburg to 64 to West Virginia turnpike etc).  Event up for adoption

8.      Date to be determined - maybe mid June, 2008 – Country roads of Walton’s Mountain.  Could include a stop at the  Walton's Mountain Museum.  Could be an overnight or just a long day.  There are some really great roads in this area between Charlottesville and Lynchburg.  Doug Rogers and Scott Woolhouse will organize.  Need input from Jerry Wallace who last organized a drive in this area.

9.      Date to be determined - Northern Virginia day trip

10.  There will be at least two ZSCCA drives organized by Frank Kirkpatrick who is the official ZSCCA Area Rep for the DC, Maryland and Virginia area.

11.  Possible Dragon run- during the week- overnight

12.  Some of our folks are participating in SCCA Performance Driving Exp (PDX) sponsored by the Washington D.C. Region of the Sport Car Club of America.  More information can be found by clicking on the links I have included.

13.   Several folks have expressed an interest in participating in an event organized by BSR, Inc    at Summit Point Raceway located in Summit Point West Virginia.  The event, Friday At The Track (or FATT) allows the novice driver (most of us) to take their car onto the track after some classroom instruction.   You will be accompanied by an instructor in the car with you and can at some point qualify to drive by yourself.  BSR allows convertibles with factory roll over protection.  Your car will need to pass a tech inspection and you will be required to have a helmet.  Helmets must be full coverage (motorcycle helmets that don't cover the ears are not allowed).  Helmets may be your own or you can rent them from OG Racing on site.  If you are interested in doing something like this, please send me an email.  Once we judge the level of interest we will determine how to proceed.
